• First and foremost, as an adult you must set the example.  If your children see you writing thank you notes, they will come to realize that this is the right thing to do.  

• Of course you will do the corresponding on the behalf of your infant and toddler.

• 3-5 year olds need to be involved in the process even though you as the parent will be doing the majority of writing.  Make this a fun activity explaining that Aunt Sally really spent a lot of time picking out the present and how special that is. Tell your child how thrilled Aunt Sally will feel when she receives a note telling her how much the gift means.  As you write the note explain what you are doing and why.  Leave space for your child’s scribbles or have him/her draw a picture of the gift.  If your child can write his/her name, include it at the end of the note.  Recipients of these notes will count your young child’s efforts as special treasures.  Listed below is one of my favorites for this age group.

• 6-10 year olds can be much more involved in the actual process. Your child will think it fun to have personalized stationery.  The younger end of this age spectrum can tell you what they want you to write.  You can each write part of the note & include your child’s drawing.  Of course at this age, your child can provide an original thank you and signature. Your 8-10 year old can probably write the entire note with you serving as consultant and editor. The time you spend with your child writing these notes is a wonderful way to impart your wisdom, values and encouragement.  Plan short sessions of writing so it does not become drudgery.  A milk & cookie break is always fun.  I have listed a few of my favorites for this age group.  After some items I have put younger or older indicating which end of this age spectrum is the most appropriate.

• Tweens (11-13) can definitely take more responsibility for this project.  Let your “tween” select his/her personalized stationery. Even if you do not love the choice, they will like what they picked out and therefore use it (we hope).  Set aside a time for the family to write their thank you notes (Christmas evening), or sit down and write a note to a friend as your “tween” tackles his/her thank you notes.  Be sure to be encouraging and give ideas of what to say and how to say it effectively.  Let your “tween” use self expression instead of creating a scripted letter.  Add some music to the mix and have fun.  I have a few favorites for this age group also. You can go either way with your “tween” stationery depending on how sophisticated he/she is.

• Teens have the ability to do these notes themselves.  You should be sure that they have stationery (personalized), pens, address book, stamps – all the necessary tools.  If your teen is really creative, let him/her design original stationery on the computer, add recent photos, etc.  The real trick here is to get your teen motivated to write thank yous.  If you began this process in the early years, he/she will know that thank you notes are a given expectation in your family.  If not, you may have to resort to bribery or whatever works for you.  Although not exactly proper, an email note of thanks is better than no note. Below are a few of my favorites for this age group. There is such a wonderful assortment of stationery for adults and young adults that it is hard to choose!  The choices for the “tween” girls may also appeal to the teen girl.

In closing, remember to prepare for any weather. There is no greater fear for an outdoor wedding than rain, but extreme heat and humidity, mosquitoes or flies, and a surprise cold spell in the early fall can make everyone uncomfortable too. Make things easy on yourself, and your guests by selecting a location that provides relief from any weather-related ills. However, if you aren't one to stress over a bit of rain and you can't afford a tent with all the fixings, go ahead with your outdoor wedding dreams, and hope for perfect weather! Happiness, in any surrounding, is sure to be a part of your outdoor wedding!

Be sure you check out the availability of air conditioning if an indoor option becomes a necessity. Being outside also may require heating lamps or heaters for your tent during autumn & spring weddings. Or fans during summer weddings, if the light, romantic breeze you planned doesn’t cooperate.

Bathrooms must be available! If your wedding location doesn't have an indoor facility that can handle the amount of guests you intend to invite, you might need to call and rent portable facilities. Don't skimp on the price here...high end portable potties will do the trick and they are a lot nicer than you would think! Make sure these are in a convenient location, that won't require your guests to walk past them unless on their way to them. Always include paths to and from your port-a-potties to the festivities area. 

Before you order your invitations you should create a guest list. Be sure you that everyone on your list will receive a formal invitation at least 2 weeks before your party date. However, a month's notice is ideal if you want to be ultra thoughtful of those with busy schedules. If time permits you may want to send out another reminder 3 or 4 days before the party, this can be a quick email, or text message. Keep those on your party list in the know in order to maximize the number of people at your party. A truly happening party is a full one.

In advance of party day you should let your guests know what, if anything, they are expected to bring. Guests hardly ever come to a party empty handed, so make sure those hands are filled with useful items. Communicating in advance with your guests will ensure they don't bring too many random items that won't really be useful during the party. Keep your requests simple and modify them to fit what is a reasonable request for each particular guest. However, you should always prepare for a guest not to attend so make sure you have enough to take care of your party needs with or without any request that's made. You never know what can happen at the last minute to put off a guest from showing. Don't risk running out of soda if a guest doesn't show up. Be over-prepared in order to be a great host.

 One last minute tip and warning: Try to make time to create a cute party favor that your friends can take home. Remember that the weather is unpredictable...be sure you check the forecast and include a plan B, or rain day with your invitation. Most importantly relax, and have a swimmingly good time!

You will need to make a decision on a theme for your pool party. Yes, a "pool party" is a theme in and of itself; however, it has been done a million times. Add extra spark to your party by infusing it with something else. A "Jaws" theme party can end with cooling down and gathering to watch the thriller. Shark toys and floating devices are a must for that particular theme.  "Hawaiian Party" or "High School Musical" are a couple of other alternative themes that could also be easy to work with.

When planning your party be sure to arrange for other activities besides swimming. Think of pool games to play, such as water volley ball. Provide several beach balls for spur of the moment ball games in and near the water. It would also be fun to set up a table or two topped with a water resistant board games, for those taking time out of the water. For added fun set up a water slide if you have room in your yard. A 30 year old can suddenly feel 10 again when sliding on one. Try to be sure that you set up lots of chairs for lounging and just hanging out. The trick to a successful pool party is to keep all your guests, in and out of the water, entertained at the same time.

If you want to keep with a beach design, purchase blue or beige paper plates, plastic utensils and napkins. If you decide on another theme, switch out the colors to best correspond to your pool party theme.

1. To whom am I writing?
   Consider your reader’s point of view. Put yourself in his or her place and envision how you might react upon receiving the same note. How do you want them to respond or react? (i.e. Happy, sympathetic, encouraging, grateful, etc.)
   
2. What am I trying to say?
   Sometimes we all need to go back to basics when it comes to communication. Think about the most important thing you wish to get across in your letter. It may just be a word or two. (i.e. I miss you, I’m sorry, I need your help, Congratulations, etc.)
   
3. Who am I?
   It sounds silly, but you may need to consider this, depending on the type of letter you are writing. If the reader does not know you or does not know you very well, you will likely need to identify yourself right away. (i.e.I am an employee, I am a friend, I am new to the neighborhood, etc.)
   
4. What do I want to happen next?
   This is pretty self explanatory, but it’s extremely important to this process. If you don’t know the answer, how can you expect your reader to? (i.e. I would like an interview, I want to know what’s new with you, I just want you to know I’m thinking of you, etc.)
   
5. What type of impression do I want to make?
   This will help you determine how casual or formal your letter will be, which can be expressed through everything from the type of stationery you use to the language you use to express yourself. (i.e. relaxed, casual, formal, professional, etc.)
   

Candy is not as good of an idea as "Thank You" party gifts. Children at this age love crayons and coloring, so get a few toddler coloring books, crayons and stickers and give those as a party gift instead. Crayons and coloring books are cheap and the kids will love them!

Structure is not as important at this age. Instead, focus on everyone having fun. The messier the better! Just keep the party short and sweet. Nothing is worse than a room full of cranky toddlers. Deboss

Debossing is a process similar to embossing, but the image is pressed into the paper as opposed to being raised.

Glossy paper that lines the inside of formal envelopes. Lining the envelopes adds an attractive and festive accent to the invitation.

Foil Stamp

Also known as "stamping" or ‘hot-stamping", it is the process of fusing foil to the paper. It is accomplished by pressing a thin layer of foil between the paper and a heated die. The image on the die effectively cuts and heats the foil, binding it permanently to the paper.

Fold Note

This is a note card that folds over. Typically. the front is imprinted with a name or monogram, and your message is handwritten on the inside. Fold notes include envelopes. They are ideal for informal correspondence and brief, personal messages.

Monogram

It was not long ago that Emily Post was warning people that a telephone call would not replace the need for a formal thank you note, and still today it is common knowledge that a phone call does not express the same personal feeling that makes receiving stationery special. Today, thank you messages and common correspondences are being expressed via email. This is easy to understand considering the speed and ease in which these messages can be exchanged. However, Miss Manners and personnel recruiters reaffirm Emily Post’s thoughts that nothing makes a great impression like a well written, hand written letter on personalized stationery. There is no denying it; there is something about receiving a letter that someone put time and thought into that makes you feel special.

So when should you send personalized stationery instead of email? Typically personalized stationery should be sent when writing a condolence letter, congratulations, apology or saying thank you. Why Business Stationery is so important

When you send a physical letter, the receiver knows that somebody had to spend money to buy the paper, create the piece, mail it, etc. Remember the saying about getting what you pay for? Free equals not much value, which is the value many people ascribe to electronic mail. Paper mail has trustworthiness because it costs money to create it. It almost always is identified with a physical return address, in the least, a postmark with the city of origin. There is an inherent lack of trust of email because its point of origin cannot be verified. Email can be sent in an instant and deleted just as quickly, or even more quickly, than the time it took to create the email.

Traditional postal mail is here to stay, through the next half-century at least. Movie cinemas and live theatres did not go away after televisions appeared in every American home (some closed, but new mega-cinemas have shown up in their place). Traditional mail definitely has value to add for today’s American, even though electronic mail is the wave of the future.

For the professional direct marketing world, both media are equally important. A survey by the Direct Marketing Association reported that electronic marketing communications have surpassed traditional direct mail with 79% of surveyed marketers employing electronic tactics while approximately 75% of them use postal direct mail. Yet in the same report, titled “The Integrated Marketing Media Mix”, surveyors reported that traditional offline media still accounts for a greater share of campaign revenue — 29% versus 21.6% of revenue generated by electronic methods. So while electronic marketing is growing in prevalence, it has yet to surpass traditional marketing in terms of total revenue (ROT was not reviewed in this analysis).

For businesses and individuals who want to grab someone’s attention, sending a letter or card in the mail is a great way to cut through the clutter and get noticed, especially if what you are mailing is of high quality and has something meaningful to say.

   I hope I have given you some food for thought about thank you notes.  Writing them isn’t really as bad as you think!  I always told my sons that if they wrote a nice thank you note they would most likely continue to get gifts from that person (especially grandparents, aunt & uncles, etc.)
   
   THE BOTTOM LINE  . . . no matter what form of thanks you chose, please make it timely . . . within 2 weeks (1 week is even better).  Brides get a break.  My rule of thumb is to get those thank-you notes out as soon as the gifts arrive.  You say, “not possible” . . . OK . . . 3 months after the wedding is still a good goal.  Some sources say you have a year, but it’s best to send out the thank-you before the gift giver forgets what they sent or that they even sent you a gift!

No email can duplicate the impact that a well-written letter or personalized stationery can generate in someone’s mailbox. There are three factors that make your handwritten card or letter stand out above electronic mail: (see Wed. for the third factor)

The Spam Factor

Can you really rely on the internet for guaranteed communications that will be read? There are several reasons that your email may not be seen, or seen but not read. The first reason is it may get caught in the wide net of junk filters. Some companies block emails from unknown domains altogether. Many legitimate emails disappear this way. But even if your email does arrive at its correct destination (which we know, most of them do), your recipient may not take the time to really read it. Overfull in-boxes plague most of today’s computer users. It is hard to get noticed in a sea of similar-looking messages. Conversely, the majority of people check their ‘real’ mailbox once a day and pay attention to items that are different than the usual household bills and sale advertisements.

The Touch Factor

This moment when your recipient is fingering through the mail stack is a crucial opportunity to stand out in the crowd. Paper can be seen and touched. The tactile sense is one that humans do not get to use that much in modern communications — where most information arrives via sight and sound. Conscious or not, the receiver is learning and processing information about each piece of mail as they sort via touch. Your letter can get noticed by sending an envelope in a unique texture, heavier weight or smooth coating or unusual shape or size. Adding a vibrant color can help the eye reinforce the message from the sensory touch to “Hey, read this!”

Writing can be a critical step in an individual’s recovery from physical illness, mental trauma or substance abuse. The first aspect of therapeutic writing is having the individual identify and articulate their own feelings: fear, anger, disappointment, anxiety, despair, confusion, and frustration are all common and valid feelings a person experiences. Writing about all these feelings can assist someone in healing and committing to the necessary treatment plan or steps on the road to recovery.

The second aspect of therapeutic writing is related to conflict resolution and strengthening past, current and future relationships. A commonly used technique in recovery from alcohol or substance abuse is to have the individual ask forgiveness or make amends for wrongs they have done in the past. Writing is a useful vehicle in tackling this challenge. Sometimes a person has been shut out because they have hurt someone badly. They may be able to communicate via a letter, or in some cases, the receiver does not accept the letter, but the individual has at least gone through the process of taking responsibility for their actions and asking for forgiveness on paper. The psychological benefits build from there as the person tackles living a better life in the future.

Creative Outlet (journaling / poetry)

A popular form of personal writing is journaling. Generally not meant for other people’s eyes, journals produce benefits that are almost 100% psychological. The act of journaling counteracts daily stress and is a useful tool to learn more about yourself and to clarify your life’s goals. Disorganized in your thinking? Not sure how you feel? Regular journal entries help you to work through everything that is going on in your life and those around you. As you put these thoughts to paper, you are working through these problems in your mind and subtly figuring out how to solve them.

Journaling also has a lighter side and can be used for the sake of creativity alone. Activities such as journal and poetry writing have been shown to improve mental function and stimulate creative thinking for people of all ages, children through senior adults. The process of writing can enable any individual to become a better communicator at home and in the workplace, for all of the reasons above and more. Creativity begets new ideas and new ways of doing things. It can be producing a piece of art for the pleasure of others. With writing, anything is possible.

Think of writing as nourishment for your brain. While writing cannot possibly solve all of your problems tomorrow, with some discipline and a regular schedule, gradually you will begin to see improvements in some areas of your life such as mood and mental health. Chances are your physical health will improve as well. As you make decisions, define priorities, strengthen relationships, and generate new ideas, the transformation you will achieve may surprise you.

Decision Making (pros and cons)

One of the first benefits to putting your thoughts on paper is discovering clarity. Seeing the words in writing makes them real and solvable. This technique is particularly useful when it comes to making a tough decision. How many times have you heard the advice to fold a piece of paper in half vertically and write all the pros of the decision on one side and all the cons on the other? We know this advice but rarely do people follow it. The act of writing helps you to weigh risks and benefits of decisions, and hopefully leads to making better ones.

Even if you do not have a life-changing decision to make, writing is a beneficial tool to simplify your life and stay organized. To-do lists are a prime example of this type of writing. The greatest benefit of all is the psychological boost you get when you cross an item off your list! Writing helps you to remember important appointments and events, benefiting you and your family in being where you need to be on time. Feeling overscheduled as a family? Try writing down everyone’s activities and then ranking them, giving each member at least two or three activities they get to keep; have each person rank their remaining priorities and get rid of the ones that are not necessary or less important.

The variety of statements you can make with your own personalized stationery goes on and on. Remember, your actions speak louder than words! Let your paper and envelopes do some talking as well. Monogramming is simply the process of marking an item with an individual’s, couple’s, or company’s initials in a stylish way. A personal monogram serves a practical purpose: to identify the owner. And, often times more importantly, a monogram serves a decorative purpose: it allows the owner to send a message about her or his personal style.

Specifically when it comes to stationery, monograms send a message that the owner (or writer) knows who he or she is. When you have plenty of tasteful monogrammed stationery on hand, you’ll be able to send a message about your own personal sense of style each and every time you send a note in the mail.

What’s the correct order for my initials in a monogram?

The first initial of your last name should appear in the middle, with your first initial to the left and your middle initial to the right. For example, if your name is Jonathon Kevin Swift, your monogram would read JSK.

How do I combine my initials with those of my spouse to create our monogram?

If you both share the same last name, the first initial of the last name should be listed first, with (traditionally) the woman’s initial listed first (to the left) and the husband’s listed second (to the right). The monogram for Jonathon and Anne Swift would be ASJ.

For couples who will be keeping (or hyphenating) their names, the best rule is to follow what you think looks best. A simple option is to use each initial from the two first names. Another option is to include the first and last initials of each person (4 letters total).

The beauty of personalized stationery is that you can make any design your own.  Any style can be personalized just for you.  If you wish to have an elegant design you may choose a design similar to our Embossed Pastel Stationery.  Embossing is the most elegant form of personalization offered.  Generally you can get these elegant notes in white or ecru paper and some printers even offer them in soft pink or blue.  For that extra touch of elegance, you may like some embossed letter sheets with a border around the edge.

If you prefer something a little more traditional with some color, you may choose a hand bordered design.  Our Hand Bordered Notes and Sheets offer a beautiful design that can be used for any correspondence you choose to write.  Generally this piece of stationery can be personalized with you name or monogram.  The personalization is printed in raised ink, giving a little something extra.

Letter sheets are also available for a more executive look and feel.  Generally a larger design, measuring 7 1/4" x 10 7/8", allows for plenty of space to write important letters and make a great impression on your colleagues.  Our Executive Stationery will do just that.  Remember, quality is the hallmark of being professional.

As stated before, there are several types of letter sheets available.  A few have been discussed and there are many more to choose from.  Remember that you can make just about any design fit your style and taste with all of the personalization options available.  To add to the impression you are already making with your stationery, have your return address printed on your envelopes.  Also, do not forget to order the extra plain sheets for those longer letters that you will write. 

The size you select is usually a matter of taste, style and preference.  However, as they go up in size they become more formal.  The note sheets and monarch sheets are generally used for non-business correspondence.  One point of reference is the fact that some choose to run their executive stationery through a laser printer for correspondence at work.  If you choose to go this direction you will want to make sure that flat ink is an option.  Thermograved or "raised" ink tends to melt when ran through laser printers.  Thus, smearing the ink on the stationery.

Letter sheets are generally suitable for any correspondence with others.  Letter sheets provide an elegant way to correspond in a very simple, tasteful manner.  If you prefer bright colors and fun whimsical designs you may want to choose the less formal memo sheets, memo pads, or fold notes that are available.  When responding to formal invitations, blank letter sheets are generally used.  It is a general rule of thumb to order blank second sheets because the back of the letter sheet is never used.

Letter sheets may be embossed, blind embossed, or printed with your name and address.  Letter sheets fold from top to bottom and will fit inside an envelope that is half its size.  The envelopes are generally included in your order; however, printing or embossing is usually available on your envelopes for an additional charge.

If you prefer a more elegant look, you may choose a design that incorporates an embossed name or monogram.  Generally you can get these elegant notes in white or ecru with some printers offering them in soft pink or blue as well.  For an even more elegant look, you may choose our Ultimate Embossed Double Border Notes.

If you prefer something more conventional and a little less elegant, you may choose a printed fold note rather than an embossed fold note.  These notes may be plain or may include an embossed border such as our Embossed Triple Border Notes.  These notes may not have the elegant embossing, but generally the name is printed in a thermograved ink, making the note just as beautiful.  Generally you can choose your name or monogram and occasionally you can add your favorite design or motif as well. 

The new wave of digital printing has increased the capabilities of printers and designers everywhere.  No longer are printers limited to one ink color designs.  Now the sky is the limit for designers and consumers alike; from bright and fun designs to elegant and formal.  Digital printing has not only allowed for multiple color designs, but it has also started a new fad of photo products like our Digital Photo Christmas Cards.  There are now many designs that allow you to add your favorite photo to your stationery.  This new capability is perfect for holiday cards, thank you notes and even wedding announcements.  Adding a photo to you stationery is another way of making the stationery a little more personal.

Fold notes generally measure 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and may fold horizontally or vertically depending on the design you choose.  However, as designers continue to design new products, sizes will vary.  Most printers offer several different designs for fold notes including those designed for corporate executives, casual writers and children.  Fold notes can be personalized in thermograved or flat ink, or even embossed.  Printers generally allow for you to choose between having your name or company name, monogram or a design or logo printed on the stationery.  Fold notes can come with colored or embossed borders or no border at all.  With all of these options to choose from, you can see how this piece of stationery is not only an important part of your collection but a multi-purpose piece of stationery as well.  

Fold notes also make a great gift.  Many printers offer decorative gift boxes for the stationery to fit in.  Manufacturers usually stamp their gift boxes with their company logo, allowing your loved one to know exactly where to get there stationery when it is time to reorder.  The gift box may be topped with a ribbon or other decorative option, topping off the perfect gift for a friend or loved one.

1. A die maker engraves your custom personalization into a set of plates, top and bottom.
    
2. The plates are set into an embossing machine that consists of a sheet feeder and a press. The plates fit into slots in the top and bottom of the press.

• First and foremost, as an adult, you must set the example. If your children see you writing thank you notes, they will come to realize that this is the right thing to do.
   
• During the early years, of course, you will do the corresponding on the behalf of your infant and toddler.
   
• 3 to 5 year olds need to be involved in the process even though you as the parent will be doing the majority of the writing. Make this a fun activity, explaining that Aunt Sally really spent a lot of time picking out the birthday present and how special that is. Tell your child how thrilled Aunt Sally will feel when she receives a note telling her how much the gift means. As you write the note, explain what you are doing and why. Leave space for your child's scribbles or have him/her draw a picture of the gift. If your child can write their name, include it at the end of the note. Recipients of these notes will count your young child's efforts as special treasures.
   
• 6 to 10 year olds can be much more involved in the actual process. Your child will think it fun to have personalized stationery. Set aside a time for the family to write their thank you notes (Christmas evening, perhaps) or sit down and write a note to a friend as your tween tackles his/her thank you notes. Be sure to be encouraging and give ideas about what to say and how to say it effectively. Let your tween use self expression instead of creating a scripted letter. Add some music to the mix and have fun.
   
• Teens have the ability to write thank you notes themselves. You should be sure that they have stationery, pens, address books, and stamps - all the necessary tools. The real trick here is to get your teen motivated to write thank yous. If you began this process in the early years, he/she will know that thank you notes are a given expectation in your family. If not, you may have to resort to bribery or whatever works for you. Although not exactly proper, an email note of thanks is better than no thanks at all.

Personalized Stationery:

First, you have a decision to make. Are you going to choose a card design based on a photo you would like to use or are you going to choose a card for its design and pick a photo that looks nice on it? If you have your heart set on one specific photo try to pick a design that color coordinates or fits the theme of your photo if a theme is applicable. If you do not have your heart set on one photo, look around and find a design you like the most and select a photo that really stands out.

Select a photo that has very little empty space. Your photo is a personal touch to the card and you want to make sure those who are receiving it can see everyone in it very well.

Try to use a photo that has the most candid or natural poses and expressions.

Photos taken in natural light seem to be brighter and crisper. Photos taken with a flash seem to wash out your surroundings.

Since most card designs have a lot of design elements to them try to select a photo where the individuals in it are wearing solid colors or basic patterns. This will keep those in the photo from blending into the design, thus making them stand out from the card.

Finally, look at photos taken from different angles. People and objects can look very different from different angles.

Most importantly, use your own judgment. No one knows what you like better than you. Selecting a photo and design you like should reflect a little bit about you and your taste.

Re-gifting just means to "give again." Why does it have to be so negative? Re-gifting could be an opportunity to give a meaningful gift to someone else repeatedly. For instance, for your sister's birthday last year you may have gotten her something personalized especially for her. If she uses it and loves it as much as you had hoped, re-gift that same item so that she doesn't run out and keep her stock renewed.　

Another way to look at re-gifting is to look at it as a means of "passing on" the notion of a gift, not the gift itself. Maybe a thoughtful friend sweetly purchased something unique for you from a stationer. Re-gift the idea of the things you treasure. Did they invest in a piece that has really been useful and wonderfully unique? If you appreciated the gift someone else might as well.

Re-gifting does not have to mean passing your junk onto the next person. On the contrary, re-gifting can be an opportunity to give a repeat gift you know they'll like or to pass your likes onto others who would be inclined to have a similar taste or need.

A quick, simple word of appreciation and gratefulness only takes a few moments to write, but can linger in the mind of the one to whom you’ve given it longer than you would think. A word of thanksgiving doesn’t have to be formal, it just needs to be sincere.

After putting in tireless years in the working world you can finally retire. The time has arrived to kick back and relax. Retirement carries you into a new phase of life. It is a time to reintroduce yourself to your spouse. as you’ll now be spending more time together. College Graduation

College graduation is not a feat all can accomplish. Many have left behind school friends, family and hometowns in an endeavor for higher education. College is where dreams start to unfold, relationships blossom and careers take birth. It is a catapult into the unknown. It is an opportunity to achieve greater financial stability, an opportunity to embrace a specific field of study and to take personal flight into higher elevations. College graduation is often a push away from the world of academia and a lunge onto a focused pathway.

High School Graduation:

The tune of "Pomp and Circumstance" almost resonates in your ear, yes’? High school graduation is the dream everyone strives after. Year after grueling year has been put in to achieving this high honor. It is an achievement that one works towards from kindergarten forward. A child faces many obstacles, challenges, and advancements in working towards this goal. It is an honor and one to be celebrated and acknowledged. It is the stepping stone into the military, working world or higher education.

Pre-School Graduation

A pre-school graduation is a celebration for your little one as they prepare for greater achievements in their academic development. Marriage is the event that takes two individuals and transforms them into one union. And with that union comes a much larger circle of family and friends. Couples getting married have a lot of things on their plate; the dress, the rings, the caterer, the honeymoon, and the list could go on and on. Maybe you will even capture the element of surprise as dad falls into the lake trying to reel in ‘the big one." We encourage you to not let the everyday be less than extraordinary. If you are looking to celebrate your family, friends, and local adventures consider documenting and sharing your photos. Your personal experiences are worth a thousand words whether faraway or in your own backyard.

Fold your letter in half. Place the crease at the bottom and the salutation facing the back of the envelope. You may want to place a flower petal or pressed rose in the letter, or perhaps a picture or other small trinket. Consider a splash of the fragrance you wear. Anything that will let your special person know that you went the extra mile to tell them how much they mean to you. Remember that you can never be too sappy when it comes to a Love Letter. Taking the extra effort to pen a Love Letter on stationery using a timeless ink, neat handwriting, words and expressions of your feelings and love or perhaps her favorite poem, sending it with a special stamp, wax seal, and spraying the pages with a dab of your favorite cologne will not go unnoticed. She will pull the letter from the mailbox in excitement and anticipation; she could notice the stamp and know that this letter is special. Reading the words you have written on the lovely stationery, she, will likely, smile, laugh, and tear up at how much you love her. She may hold the letter close to her and take in the handsome scent of your cologne, day dreaming of holding you close. Mission accomplished. Your Love Letter will show your darling just how special she is to you, and that is why you are writing the letter in the first place.

Start your letter with terms of endearment. "Dear Jane" is not the lead in for a monumental Love Letter. Consider using a pet name, or simply phrasing it "My sweetest Jane". As with any letter, you will want to state your purpose for writing. Whether your love is far away, you suddenly see your best friend as something more, or the relationship is going well and you cannot keep from bursting at the seams with how much you love this person, start by telling them so. You can be honest and express that you are not sure how to begin or what to say. Mention what the thought of this special person does to you: makes your heart race, ties you up in knots, keeps you awake at night, has you thinking about the future, makes you smile, or frightens you at how much they mean to you so quickly, to name a few. Try to refrain from negatives such as "You must think I am insane" or "I know you do not feel the same". These statements may be true, but a Love Letter is a statement or confession of love. It is not necessarily a correspondence. Be bold, be honest, and be yourself. If you tend to keep things lighthearted and fun you can still include some inside jokes or recollect funny occasions, but do avoid being too casual. This letter should be formally stating your love rather than crafting witty remarks at every line. Your reader should fall deeper in love, not laughter, after reading your words.

The body of your letter should explain why you feel the way you do. Include specific moments when you realized that you loved the person, such as what they were doing and where you were. Recall special times together and memories that you often think of. Try to avoid making lists. While it is acceptable to recount his or her qualities and attributes that you appreciate, you do not want your letter to come off as an inventory of traits. Again, focus on the way the person makes you feel and how they have impacted your life.

If you are a person that cannot express themselves well in writing, there is still another option for you. Consider a different format for your letter. Begin with an adoring greeting and pen the purpose for your letter. From there, you can explain that your words would never fully express how you feel, and state that someone else has done so more adequately than you could. From there you may choose to hand write a poem or prose that reflects your sentiments. It may be written by your lover’s favorite author or just a beautifully articulated sonnet that you wanted to share. Hand writing it out will still reflect the thought and time you have put into this Love Letter. Be sure to credit the author from whom you are borrowing, though.

After detailing your feelings, draw the letter to a close. Try to sum it up in one sentence, the crux of what this person means to you, or close by telling them what writing this letter has allowed you to do, such as "Now I can rest because you finally know how I feel" or "It is so freeing to tell you all that is in my heart". End in a positive, cheerful way. Writing this letter should leave you feeling happy and alive because you are thinking about the one that makes you happy and alive! Be sure to sign your letter with something more than just "Love, John"; you cannot write a letter of love and then close it in such an anticlimactic manner. Consider a "Forever Yours" or "All my love" salutation, something that is heartfelt and meaningful.

Appearance

First impressions are important, whether it is your first date or a Love Letter you are penning. Understand that your Love Letter may become a keepsake that your mate will treasure for years to come. Therefore this should not be something you scribble down on the nearest scrap piece of paper. Start with your stationery. Select a fine piece in ivory or white so that your words will show up clearly. You may choose to use monogrammed or personalized stationery that has your name on it. Opt for something with matching envelopes, as this will be the finishing touch when you send your letter. Next, use a high quality pen. Use black or brown ink. Avoid blue, green, red, or other colors as you want your words to be clear rather than lost in the busyness of a colorful ink. Using a classic pairing of neutral paper and quality ink will allow this message to remain timeless.

Preparation

When you set down to write your words of love, do so with purpose. This is no time for multi-tasking. Block out some time without distraction. Choose a quiet place, like an office, study, or bedroom. You may put on some romantic music or take a look at your favorite picture of your lover before you begin, to help stimulate your thoughts and feelings. Before you begin, be sure to date your letter for posterity’s sake. Pay attention to your penmanship as you write your letter. You want to write neatly and clearly so that the words can be easily understood.

The excitement you feel when you open your mailbox and see a hand addressed envelope with your name on it and it’s not a bill or credit card application. You carry the envelope into your home and carefully turn it over to see if there is a return address and name on it, then you carefully open the back flap to see what is inside or you can be like some and rip it open leaving pieces of envelope on the table. It can be an invitation to your grandchild’s first birthday, a Graduation Open House invitation, Housewarming Party, maybe a Surprise Party invitation. Some you will save the invitation and scrapbook it, put it on the fridge for a reminder and some of you will just put in a drawer for safe keeping to find at a later date and bring a smile.

Don’t get us wrong, we know the convenience of technology and are all for it. Customarily, the maid or matron of honor hosts the bridal shower. However, it is not uncommon for a bride-to-be to have multiple showers hosted by different people. Mailing Your Holiday Cards

Holiday Card Etiquette

We know it is a little early to be thinking of your holiday card list, but we’re going to go over a few tips to help you get started when the proper time arrives.

Holiday Card List

The first thing you need to do is think about who you will be sending cards to.  Our answer would be to send cards to as many people as possible.  We might be a tad biased, but there is some truth to it.  Holiday Cards are usually a way for you to reconnect with people you don’t see or speak to on a regular basis.  In today’s digital society that number could become a pretty large.  The best way to figure out an estimate of how many cards to order is to start with your address book and last years card list.  Start by removing old business associates and loved ones that have passed away.  Then add new friends, family members or colleagues.  This list will give you a good idea of the number of cards you’ll need.  Make sure when you’re placing your order that you order more than you think you’ll need.  It is cheaper to buy more in the first initial order than it is to order more at a later date.  It never fails after sometime between ordering the cards and actually mailing them, you’ll realize you’ve forgotten someone. 

If you’re budget is really tight this year and you can’t afford to spend a lot of money on gifts, by sending a holiday card you let someone know how much you care without purchasing a gift.  If you have purchased gifts in the past for someone, but aren’t going to this year, send them a card.  Let them know that you’re thinking of them even though there’s no gift and wish them a merry holiday and happy new year. 

Remember that Christmas is not the only Holiday

Thank you notes aren’t necessary for every kind gesture, like when your husband picks up some groceries, but there are certain circumstances that require a written acknowledgement.  If you received a gift from someone out of the blue, were a guest of honor at a dinner party, or stayed overnight in someone’s home, then you should definitely send a thank you note. 

The best thing to remember about thank you notes is if you’re not sure whether to send one or not, it’s a good idea to go ahead and send it.  Here are few simple tips to help you when you write your next thank you note.

Time Etiquette

It doesn’t matter how you choose to say thank you, be sure to do it in a timely fashion.  Thank you notes for showers, weddings, birthdays or other special occasions should be sent out within two to three weeks, no later than five weeks, of receiving gifts.  Mail thank you notes for weekend stays or dinner parties the day after the event.  A thank you note will lose it’s meaning if you wait too long to send it.  To guarantee your thank you notes are received with in an acceptable time frame, buy thank you notes and plenty of stamps in advance to keep around the house.

Personalize It

You should always begin a thank you note by addressing the giver and thanking them for the gift.  Be specific when thanking them for the gift and mention how you intend to use it.  If you received money, replace the amount given with the word “generosity” or something similar.  Your thank you notes don’t have to be a long note.  Feel free to keep them short and too the point, just remember to always make them personal.  Below are a few examples of proper thank you notes:

You can change ink color, font, the number of pictures you want on a page (where as most programs only have a few layouts to choose from) and you can even manipulate the pictures the way you want them by rotating and enlarging or shrinking them down. The words you add can be placed anywhere you want them (as opposed to other programs that only allow for you to type in their pre-determined text box location). Put thought into the paper.

Important business letters shouldn’t be written on just any note card. At the same time you probably shouldn’t write a letter of condolence on business stationery. Think about what kind of letter you’re writing and then pick the paper accordingly.

Stay alert.

When writing your letter stay focused on what you want to say and what you want to happen once the letter has been read.

Take a step back.

If while writing your letter you feel like you’re getting overwhelmed with emotion take a step back, take a break. Come back to your letter in a few hours once you’ve cleared your head and read it to make sure it says what you actually wanted it to say. Now that you’ve got a clear head you might notice a few things you’d like to change.

Get technical.

You’re computer has a spelling and grammar check for a reason. Don’t be afraid to use them. Type up a rough draft of your letter on the computer and use the grammar tools to help edit your letter. Then write out your final draft. This can be extremely helpful when writing business letters.

Produce a perfect ending.

Remember that the last things you say in the letter are the last ones the reader will read. More often than not, they’re also the things the reader remembers most about your letter. Last minute dinner invitations

Just because the dinner party is last minute doesn’t mean you should call people to invite them. Phone calls not only take up a lot of time, but it also makes your friends feel obligated to make a decision right then. Belated Birthday Cards

Not understanding how to use punctuation symbols in sentences is another of the common mistakes in letter writing. Placing unnecessary commas in sentences can confuse and irritate readers. Punctuation symbols used incorrectly can change the tone and message of your letter in unintended ways. Learn how to use punctuation correctly.

Let the run-on-sentence not be forgotten as one of the common mistakes in letter writing. Many people struggle with when to stop a train of thought or how to properly punctuate a compound sentence (really two complete sentences in one). It can be agonizing trying to determine the perfect spot to end a sentence with a period, and thus begin a new one -- or where to place a comma, or when to use a semi-colon instead. For the average writer, it is best to read your sentence aloud. This is often the most helpful tool for determining where one sentence needs to end and another begin.

Unintentionally focusing your letter more on yourself and not on the letter recipient is another of the common mistakes in letter writing. Be stingy about using "I" in your letters except where necessary in the context of a particular sentence or paragraph. "You" places the focus where it should be -- on the letter recipient. Use this word as often as possible in the natural flow of your letters.

Wordiness is another of the common mistakes in letter writing. Most of us are very busy people. We do not want to have to spend a lot of time reading something that is ripe with unnecessary wordage cloaked around the real message contained in the letter. You may be familiar with many of the following common mistakes in letter writing, that's what makes them "common"! Some proponents of online mail and instant messaging would prefer to relegate the practice of letter writing to the history shelves. The art of letter writing is actually not in decline. Common Sense

Common sense is the basis of etiquette. For example, when you’re writing an invitation you need to include the essential information if your want your guests to actually come to the party. • Don't send a thank you email.  This is really too impersonal.  It shows that you didn't want to take the time or effort to write an actual thank you.

• Don't use pencil.  Pencil is temporary and often times messy.  Use black or blue ink.

1. Greet the Gift Giver
   How formal you want to be here will depend on your relationship with the person as well as the message you want to convey.  You don't have to start addressing your sister as "To My Dear Ms. Emily Kate Witherspoon" just because you are thanking her for a lavish birthday gift.  On the other hand, if you want to show respect to your great Aunt Beatrice by following traditional etiquette, you might not want to scribble "Hey Aunt Bea."  Follow the path that feels right to you...just make sure to mention the gift giver by name.
   
   
2. Say Thanks
   This seems like it would be the easy part, but for some reason it's usually not that simple.  Don't get stuck...just say it!  If "thank you for the pretty bouquet of flowers" sounds like an overly simple sentence to you, it's because it is...and that's what makes it so perfect.  The point of your note is to acknowledge that you received the gift and to express your thanks.  Stick to the point. 
   If you received cash as a gift, never mention the monetary amount.  Use words like "generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness" in place of a dollar sign.  "Your generosity is appreciated" trumps" Thanks for the 20 bucks"
   
   
3. Explain Why or How the Gift is Special
   Now you should tell the person how you'll put the gift to use.  "The roses smell lovely and the bright colors are really lifting my spirits during the cold winter season."  Stuck on the money issue again?  Try explaining why their generosity is appropriate at this time.  For example, "I'll be thinking of you when we put it toward our long-awaited vacation next month.
   You should have some fun here, and get personal and descriptive if you want, but keep it honest.  Telling your Aunt Bea that "I literally have not taken off this sweater and matching hat since the day they arrived two weeks ago" seems less than sincere.
   
   
4. Reflect on the Past and Look Ahead to the Future
   This is a nice touch because it makes the recipient feel that they are a part of your life.  As a guide, think about why or when the gift was given and think about when you'll see the gift giver next.  "It was wonderful to see you at our wedding.  I'm looking forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving."  Writing to someone you barely know or rarely see?  Try something like "It was so nice of you to think of me.  I hope all is well with you and that we cross paths soon."
   
   
5. Say it Again
   Drive the point home by saying "Thanks" one more time.
   
   
6. Sign-off
   Give your regards and sign your name.

1. Write it ASAP
   It's never too early to thank someone for his or her professional help, or for loyal and continued business.  If you are thanking someone for a job interview, you should mail the letter within 24 hours.
   
   
2. Address the recipient by name
   Whenever possible, address your letter to a specific person, and refer to him or her again by name and/or title within the body of the letter.  If you can, refer to specific experiences or instances the person will remember.  You don't want the letter to sound like a generic form you send to anybody and everybody.
   
   
3. Use quality stationery
   E-mail has become increasingly acceptable in our society, but if you want to stand out from the crown, a hand-written note is the way to go.  Customized stationery or letterhead lends itself to the professional and memorable image you want to portray.
   
   
4. Get to the point.
   Thank the person for their time, advice, or business.  Do not be overly dramatic or make grand gestures or promises you can't keep.  You want to be sincere and succinct.

   There are few things more unprofessional or annoying than common grammatical errors.  Typos send the message that you are careless and unprofessional.  If you need to, type a draft of your letter in a word processor to check for spelling and grammatical errors

Of course professional letters should be just that. . . professional. But, that doesn’t mean they can’t be personal. Try to insert some personality into you letter by making a connection with the recipient in some way. Have you met this person? You can open by saying "It was so nice to meet you at last week’s reception." Do you have something in common or a shared interest? Mention it! Especially if you have interviewed or conferenced with this person, it will serve you well to mention a specific aspect of your conversations. It will likely peak the interest, or at least stir a memory in the reader, which will hold their attention...your ultimate goal.

What if I Don’t Know to Whom I am Writing?

In all cases, it’s always best to address the letter to an actual person, so do your best to gather the name of the hiring manager or office manager or whomever you need to contact (check the company web site or call the office to gather this information). If it’s not possible to secure a name, try any of the following (less personal) salutations:

Miss - addressing an unmarried woman (rarely used today. Ms is "safer")

Finding out someone’s official title may actually take a little research on your part, but it will be well worth the effort. First, find out whether the person uses an official title (Dr. for example). Without this important sign of respect, you’ll run the risk of insulting your reader before she has even begun reading. After the greeting or salutation, place a colon before skipping a line and beginning your business letter.

2. Do Present Yourself Well With Professional Stationery

Business letters, cover letters, and professional letters of all types are often your first and only chance to make a great impression. In the same way that you would wear your nicest, most professional attire to an interview or important meeting, you should put your best foot forward with high-quality, professional business stationery that it is a reflection of you and your business.

3. Do make your intentions clear

Especially when dealing with busy professionals, it’s important to be specific and candid about what you want. It’s even more important that you get to the point within the first few sentences. Studies show that readers simply lose interest if the intent or meaning of a letter is not made explicitly clear within the first paragraph. Keep the concentration on what you are trying to say and/or what you want to happen after the recipient has read the letter. In most cases, you should leave the reader with a specific follow-up action (i.e. "I will call your office next week to follow up on this matter," or "I look forward to your response").

4. Do Proofread

The spell-check and grammar functions on our computers have helped us, but hinder us at the same time. There is no "auto-correct" on a hand-written letter, so you’ll have to become your own editor! One great idea is to type your letter using your word processor to check for any mistakes before putting your pen to paper. There are also multiple web sites that will allow you to check your spelling and grammar. But, the most important advice we can give is to read and re-read your letter, than read it again before sending it. Often, we can’t see our own mistakes, so it’s important to "walk away" for a while before coming back and editing your work, or you can give your letter to a friend or colleague to edit. It’s important to send your letter in a timely matter, but it’s more important that any errors, misspellings, or typos don’t reflect poorly on you or distract from your important message.

Just by reaching out to a friend in an "old-fashioned letter," you’re making a stylish statement. Why not start an entire string of hand-written communication? 2. Do Address Your "Audience"

Recent polls conducted by General Nutrition Centers and Quicken show that more than 50% of Americans aspire to appreciate and spend more time with family and friends in the coming year. When it comes to reaching out, showing appreciation and reconnecting, personalized stationery is a great first step towards making more frequent and more meaningful connections with your loved ones. Here’s how: when you are prepared with beautiful stationery, you will be excited about (and therefore more likely to) reach out to the important people in your lives on both the biggest and the smallest of occasions.

A 2011 calendar and a current contact list are all you need to get started. Whether you choose to plug important dates into your PDA, or prefer an old- fashioned wall-calendar, use the following list (posted throughout the next couple of weeks) to mark all the year’s important dates and events. The next step is to get into the habit of looking a few days or a week ahead in order to send timely and relevant notes to loved ones on important holidays and celebrations. One idea is to make the first Sunday of every month "letter night" where you (alone or with your family) sit down to write notes to loved ones — whether there is a holiday coming up or not!

You just might find that stationery also helps you hold some of your other New Year’s Resolutions. Beyond reconnecting with loved ones through the mail, you will also be creating quality family time, getting organized and saving money.

Normally, retirement parties do not happen more than once, it is not a birthday bash you can celebrate every year, or a holiday, it is a very special accomplishment and the retiree deserves an astounding celebration that they won't fail to remember. If you decide to go with party favors, or decorations why not create some with pictures of the retiree, from when they started working, till the end date. This is sure to evoke memories and prompt discussions between all about the changes throughout the years. A collage or a slide show would also be fun! You can also decorate around your theme, for example with a luau theme you could have an arrangement of different colored leis. Another suggestion would be to utilize craft paper for help achieving a Hawaiian look. The paper can be used to create a bright sun, green palm trees, blue Ocean, colored fish, etc.  If you want to have an inexpensive centerpiece, and do not want to go over the top, drop out different tips of candies, confetti, and set up colored balloons. There may be a few tears shed, speeches given or jokes thrown around...whatever happens it is sure to be a memorable and rewarding time for the retiree!

For most of those facing retirement it is a cause for celebration, but it can also be a little down hearted because the retiree is preparing to depart their work place, work friends and normal routine. That is why throwing a retirement party is a great way to say goodbye, and wish the lucky retiree good luck as they enter in to a new chapter and adventure in their life.

In years past retirement was associated with days full of TV, books, propping up of feet and relaxation. Today those images seem to be in the minority...today retirees are busy moving away to a warm place, starting a new exercise program, volunteering their time or starting a new career. They may have children and grandchildren close by, but the financial responsibilities are gone, and this is more their time to enjoy their lives than ever! Half of the work involved in a Progressive Dinner Party is done once you have decorated your home for the holidays. This party simply consists of a dinner that changes homes for each food course. For example you may start out with appetizers at your home, and move on to the next home, admire their decorations, and have a soup course…this continues from home to home until your finish off with dessert or a night cap. Planning and executing a Progressive Dinner Party achieves two goals, one being that everyone can share their beautifully decorated homes, and secondly everyone can enjoy a wonderful dinner with one another.

The first step is to decide how many friends you would like to include in your party so that you can determine how many homes and courses will be involved. We suggest beginning with appetizers followed by a soup course, then a main course followed by a salad course, followed by a dessert course and finished with a night cap. That would involve five homes, assuming that the appetizer and night cap would bring the partiers full circle. Once you have decided on your course plan and those you would like to have participate, you can begin looking for your invitation. Your invitation needs to include the date, time, location of each course, and an explanation of what will be involved. This should be a fun time, so each participant needs to prepare something that can be served in a timely fashion, and that won’t interfere with their travel from home to home for the other courses. If you have a group who would like to include alcohol with their courses, you should probably try to line up a chauffeur to transport everyone from home to home. This takes the worry out of you and your guests’ festivities. If you plan on this, be sure you specify that in the invitation as well. A Cookie Exchange Party is normally held close to the holidays so that you will be able to enjoy your take home stash with family and loved ones. Once you have decided on a day that will best fit your schedule, and who you would like to attend, you can begin shopping for your party invitations. The reason for the confusion stems from the words’ origin. Both come from the Latin word statio, meaning job, station, or position. The adjective stationary was used to refer to a fixed military position. Later, it was used to describe stationary sellers (as opposed to peddlers who would travel). These "stationary sellers" became known as stationers. Booksellers were often "stationers" because their items were too heavy to transport. It then made sense to term the items that "stationers" used, such as pens, ink, and paper as stationery. In England, stationary was first used as an adjective in 1626. It wasn’t until 1688 that paper and writing products became known by the noun stationery.

Puzzled? You’re not alone. Here’s how to differentiate quickly between the two. Think back, once again, to those grade school days. Remember the mnemonic device (a trick that helps you remember something) "i before e, except after c"? Here’s one for stationery: stationery with an e refers to envelopes.

If you have to think twice before writing these words on stationery, don’t be too hard on yourself; how these words perplex us is a stationary part of their nature.

The embossed correspondence cards may come in a few different designs. The stationer may add an embossed border around the outside of the stationery. Perhaps a single line may be embossed under your personalization. A design may be embossed down one side of the card. However, designers continue to come up with new ideas and the number of designs available continues to expand. All the extras being added by designers are making a very elegant piece of stationery priceless.

Papyrus quickly became the writing surface of choice. It was made by stripping the stem of the plant to the pith and laying the strips together in a single line. Next another layer was placed on top of this layer, cross wise. The strips were moistened and hammered together to make a solid sheet. Lastly, the papyrus sheets were dried and ready for use. Papyrus was not only more accessible than parchment made from a dead animal, but it lasted much longer. Papyrus was more resistant to mold and rot and could be produced in bulk. It was for these reasons that its use spread.

Papyrus was used around Europe until the twelfth century. Egypt’s dry, hot weather allowed the papyrus to hold up much better than in humid climates. Documents from Egypt still exist on papyrus dating back to the third millennium BC. However, its shelf life was much shorter in European countries, with documents lasting only one to two hundred years. In addition, it was mostly imported, which made it expensive. A need for a better surface still plagued most of the world.

In China, they had been using the pulp from reeds to press together in the first paper since the second century AD. It slowly made its way through Asia and eventually appeared in Europe a thousand years later. Using the pulp from reeds, trees, and even grasses made it cheaper than importing papyrus and also resulted in a more climate resistant material. In the nineteenth century, advances in pulping (to separate the fibers) made for stronger and thicker papers. As a result, letter writing and bulk printing (newspapers and magazines) made information available to the masses.

Today, paper is available in many thicknesses, shapes, sizes, and colors. It is a comfort that we take for granted sometimes, as access to it is limitless in our culture. It all started with a plant in the desert and a pharaoh’s desire to record his reign for posterity.

No party decorating is complete without some sort of table decorations.  Follow through with fall colored napkins in orange, red, brown or gold, when you add plates in a similar palette the autumn felling should come alive. Depending on whether your party is inside or out you could consider also adding a coordinating table cover, confetti, or hay bales for seats. Food can also add to your decorating ideas. Some yummy suggestions for your party, that are easy to concoct are toasted pumpkin seeds, include: corn bread, popcorn balls, pumpkin or apple pie, hot dogs and marsh mellows roasted over an open fire! Go ahead and get a bowl of apples and combine them with a tub of water for some old fashioned and hilarious, apple diving! Just use caution, especially if you have kids attending, to make your apple diving a fun and safe experience, by not adding too much water.  Also, rake up all your fallen fall leaves in to a heap in your front or back yard for a "jumping joy"! Kids will love "jumping for joy" in a huge pile of nothingness. Love bowling? Try bowling on grass, using small pumpkins for bowling balls and empty coke cans for bowling pins!  You could also host a game of musical chairs with a twist; try musical chairs using your decorative hay bales! That will keep children and adults entertained and laughing.  Last but not least, if you can work out the logistics, you should try to arrange for a hay ride! This is a hit with any age and is sure to be one of your party highlights! So, mix and match any of the tips above, and customize a Fall Harvest Party that suites your style. Just keep in mind that this is for your enjoyment as well as your friends and family, and let your creativity do the rest!

You should begin by deciding whether or not to host an indoor or outdoor party. This will be dependent on what kind of atmosphere you are trying to achieve and who will be attending. If you prefer really experiencing the "feel" of fall, hosting the party outside is the best plan. Once you have decided on an outside event you should begin gathering any simple and easy to find decorations, such as leaves, apples and pumpkins. You should plan to fill in with larger decor items that add to the fall harvest theme such as bales of hay, pumpkins, cornstalks and scare crows. A few of these scattered outside your home or party area will lend a warm and friendly atmosphere. If you are hosting the party in your back yard, and your attendees will be arriving at your home be sure to also decorate your front porch with a scarecrow, pumpkins or something that coordinates and starts the fall party feel.

If you think that the cool fall weather won't cooperate with you or your guests’ comforts or needs, you can still have a lot of fun hosting your harvest party indoors. If this is your plan be sure to bring as much of an "autumn feeling" inside by making your location a well decorated center of attention! One suggestion is to try your hand at making oak trees out of construction paper, and hanging them up on the walls or with fishing wire from the ceiling. Or use actual cornstalks, planted in corners or nooks and crannies...to avoid the mess; you could try your hand at making these as well! Another great party add-on is balloons. They always seem to make any party feel festive and add the feeling of fun to any atmosphere. They are also a good source of color, and a budget saver.

If you are having trouble coming up with an idea, ask the bride and groom for their input. They might have a hobby or common interest that you can plan the shower around. One idea is a barbecue. Most people can appreciate a gathering of this type and it is easy to plan activities outdoors that will be enjoyable for both men and women. Another alternative is wine and appetizers. Because your guest list will naturally double with a couples shower, look for venues other than your home in which to have the shower. A local restaurant or park is a nice option. Try planning the shower time around a sporting event; the men can watch the game while the women play a more traditional shower game involving the bride. Then you can bring everyone back together with the gift opening portion of the party.

Most couple’s showers are casual. That is not to say that you can’t make it an elegant affair with dancing and dinner, though. There is no limit to what you can do; just keep in mind your guests of honor as they are the most important part of the event.

It is something we all do during the holiday season. It can be tedious; it can be time-consuming. It is gift-wrapping. Why not add an element of fun by hosting a holiday gift-wrapping gala? A few weeks before the holidays, invite your friends to spend a few hours eating, drinking, laughing and wrapping

To make the party as dynamic as possible, designate each guest to bring specific gift-wrap items (wrapping paper, ribbons, tape, gift boxes, gift bags, etc.). Starting a "Thanksgiving Circle"

Here is one special tradition that is especially thoughtful during the Thanksgiving Season. Start by thinking of two people you want to thank for being in your life. Write and send a personal letter explaining just what each of those people mean to you, and include a gift of personalized stationery. Encourage them to continue the circle of love by using a piece of the stationery you have given them to send a similar sentiment to two loved ones of their own. In lieu of, or in addition to, a note of your own, you can include a message like this one:

Thanksgiving Recipe Party

Recipe parties can be a great way to get to know people (and get to know some great recipes, of course!) Here is a great way to get some delicious Thanksgiving recipes while getting your favorite people together during this special time of year.

When you send your party invitations, include a set of personalized stationery for each guest, and ask that they write down a favorite recipe on one of the cards. Summer is coming to a close and the kids are heading back to school. This is the perfect time to celebrate the finish of another fantastic season in the sun! While you are at it, why not spread a little sunshine of your own? One wonderful way to welcome the Fall is to help less fortunate families start the school year with a fresh new beginning. Here are some ways to accomplish that goal while celebrating the beginning of the new season:

Back to School Backpack Bash

What a great way to teach your kids a great lesson before the school year even starts. Host a backpack-stuffing party for less fortunate members of your community. Purchase a few backpacks (depending on how many guests you are inviting) and ask your guests to donate back-to-school supplies to fill them with. You can offer refreshments and play music and let everyone know where the backpacks will be going (local shelters, churches, and schools for homeless students always appreciate these types of donations). Invite guests to write words of encouragement, personalized notes, or “words to live by” on individual note cards to be included in the backpacks.

1. Customized shipping labels present a professional image.
   What does it say about your company if your shipping labels are smeared or poorly printed? Labels printed off the office printer using standard size labels are a dead give-away that your office is on a shoestring budget. Even if you are economizing, do you really want to look like you are?

The Single Frame Embossed Notes and The Ultimate Embossed Double Border Notes are two of my personal favorites! Personally, I have always believed that it is "ladies first" and that the gentleman's first and last name should not be separated unless children's names are being included in a signature (i.e. a Christmas card).

Font Color — The ability to adjust the color of your personalization on a character by character, word by word basis is also available through the Live Edit preview system. This feature is sure to make any design fit your taste. Simply double click the area of personalization you wish to edit and highlight the personalization you want to change. In the top center area of the preview window there is a small color window.

Once you click the window a color palette will appear. You can select any color from the palette or if you know the RGB (Red, Green Blue) value of the color you can key that in manually.

Line Spacing — Line Spacing is a tool that allows you to manipulate the amount of vertical space between lines of personalization. You can increase the amount of space between lines to fill in some space or you can decrease the line spacing between lines to make room for an extra line or two of personalization. Once you single click the text area you wish to change you will see the term “Leading” near the top center of the Live Edit preview window.

The first button to the right of “Leading” is used to decrease the amount of space between lines while the second button to the right is to increase the space between lines. Simply click the one you need to use and you will see the change take effect.

As you can see, the Live Edit preview system is a very powerful tool. It enables you to alter the personalization in just about every way imaginable while still being fairly easy to use. The best part of all is that you are looking at a low resolution version of the file that is going to be printed on our digital presses. Everything you see in the preview is just as you will see it when it arrives in your mail box.

Font Stylizing — There are over 100 fonts within the Live Edit preview system to choose from. However, if none of them really seem to be the perfect font you had in mind you might want to try the bold and italic features. Simply double click the personalization wish to alter. Highlight the text within the pop up box and click the bold or italic buttons located at the top and center of the Live Edit preview window. Here is what the font stylizing button looks like:

Then click OK and your change will be applied.

If you need to underline a specific part of your personalization or need to provide a place to write on you can use the underline tool. The underline tool is located right next to the bold and italic tools. The steps to product this affect are the same as those for the bold and italic tools. If you would like a blank line for a place to write a hand written message you can delete a line of personalization or simply hit enter to create a new line, click the underline button and simply press the space bar.

Bold, Italic and Underline are basic tools used in any word processing software. However, when used properly they can really transform your cards, invitations or announcements.

Font Justification — Font justification is another basic word processing tool. You can use this tool to justify text to the right, left or center. You can justify text on a line by line basis. Simply double click the area the personalization you wish to change is located and highlight the personalization you wish to shift. You will find the left, right and center justify buttons at the top and center of the Live Edit preview window.

Once you have selected which way you would like to shift the text click the ok button and the change will be applied to your preview.

Editing font size — Edit font size in the Live Edit preview system is very similar to editing the font which we discussed in an earlier post. You can edit the font size of you personalization on a character by character, word by word, line by line basis. To get started simply double click the personalization you wish to change. If you have already double click to change the font, you can simply leave the pop up box open and make the font size change before clicking ok to apply the changes. Once you have the personalization pop up box open simply highlight the portion of personalization you wish to change. It’s as simple as clicking and dragging. Now that you have highlighted the portion of personalization you want to change look to the top of the Live Edit preview window. Next to the font drop down you will see another drop to the immediate right.

The number seen in the drop down is the current font size of the highlighted personalization. Click the down arrow and use the scroll bar to view the available font sizes. At this point you can do one of two things. You can simply click the number of the size you would like or if you don’t see the font size you would like, you may key it into the area. Once you have completed that task click the OK button and the changes will be applied for your viewing.

Font Selection — As mentioned previously, if you have any experience with word processing software font selection should be a routine task. If you are not experienced in word processing don’t worry; it is a relatively easy thing to do and we are going to walk through it together right now. First, double click the portion of the design’s sample personalization you wish to change. The sample wording should appear in a box with a cancel and ok buttons at the bottom. Use your cursor to highlight the sample personalization or your own personalization. Simply click and hold the button down near the beginning of the personalization and drag the cursor to where the personalization ends. If you wish to only change the font for only a portion of the personalization simply click where you wish the change to start and drag to where you wish for the change to stop. The sample wording or your own personalization if you have already keyed it in should have a black background behind it. This black background is letting you know that the personalization has been selected. Now, in the top left corner of the Live Edit software you will see a drop down with a small arrow pointing downward.

This is the font selection drop down. The font name listed in the drop down is the font the sample wording is defaulted in. To change the font you simply click the down arrow and use the scroll bar to view other available fonts.

Once you choose a font you would like to see on your preview just click the font name and then click the OK button. The change should apply to your preview. If you do not like the font once you see it in your preview, simply repeat the steps until you find a font that suits your taste.

In the previous post we covered the tools available through our Live Edit preview system. In this post we will explain each available tool in depth, as well as explain how to use each tool in a step by step fashion. Our Live Edit preview system was designed to empower our customers to customize our products and make them their own with as little confusion as possible. That being said, we realize things can get complicated when allowing this much flexibility and we want to help if confusion should occur. So here it is, a how to walk through.

Photo Upload — Photo products are extremely popular with our customers. Live Edit makes it easy to upload your favorite photos to our products. Simply double click the sample image in the preview, then click the browse button. Once you locate the image you wish to upload, select the file, click the open button and then click the ok button within the Live Edit dialog box. For products with multiple photos on the design just repeat the steps above for each sample photo shown. Uploading the file will take a few moments depending on the size of your photo. We recommend that you upload a high resolution file of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). This will insure that your photo prints very clearly on the product. Presto, it is as simple as that! You have just uploaded your first photo through the Live Edit preview system.

This users guide will go into depth on each of these tools and explain how to use them later. For now, let us get familiar with each of the tools and what they can do.
