In the past, wedding anniversaries before the twentieth or twenty-fifth years were not usually celebrated publicly. These days, however, it is not uncommon for a couple to want to celebrate any milestone anniversary with family and friends.

Ten Years Gone By

A 10-year wedding anniversary is no exception, as many couples are proud and pleased to have reached this significant point together. For an unforgettable anniversary celebration, simply keep in mind the ideas of love and commitment and the symbols associated with the 10-year wedding anniversary. Recognize that a 10-year wedding anniversary demonstrates the strong commitment of the couple. With rising divorce rates, some people no longer believe in the commitment of marriage. With that in mind, creating a marriage and maintaining it for a decade is certainly something to celebrate. Having reached the 10-year mark means the couple has learned a few lessons in compatibility.

Find a present with meaning. Tin and aluminum are the symbols of the tenth wedding anniversary. These metals symbolize how a marriage can be bent without being broken. Examples of possible gifts include picture frames, baking dishes or sculptures made of pewter. Get some flowers. Daffodil is the flower associated with the tenth wedding anniversary. Daffodils in an aluminum vase would be even more symbolic. Blue sapphire or diamond is also gifted on the tenth anniversary. Both of these stones symbolize strength and durability. Anniversary bands or pendants with diamonds are a very popular gift choice for those celebrating a 10-year wedding anniversary.

If you plan to celebrate a 10-year anniversary privately, consider visiting the place where you first met or some other location that brings back memories of your courtship.

Renew your vows. A 10-year wedding anniversary can also be a great time to consider renewing your vows. Ask the officiant who married you the first time to perform the same ceremony again. This can be a wonderful celebration that includes your children and others who were not present the first time, as well as those who were in attendance.

First Anniversary

The first year of marriage is marked by transition and new beginnings. Celebrate your first wedding anniversary in a way that will bring you even closer together. Visit the place where you met or had your first date. If you were married in a hotel or at a local resort, make reservations for the weekend to enjoy a couple of nights away from it all.

The traditional gift for a one-year anniversary is paper, and paper gifts can include journals, custom stationery or books.

The modern one-year gift is a clock. If you froze the top layer of the wedding cake, the one-year anniversary is the traditional day to eat it. Don’t forget to pull it out of the freezer a few hours in advance so it can defrost. Tell your spouse what the past year has meant to you and why you love being married.

Although your love may have no limits, unfortunately your budget for celebrating your anniversary might. Come up with creative ways to commemorate the memories and make new ones. This year, romantically express your love, devotion and gratitude for the times you’ve shared without breaking the bank. Make anniversary dinner reservations for the late afternoon to take advantage of lunch prices or early-bird specials. Also mention it’s your anniversary since many restaurants will offer you a complimentary dessert or glasses of champagne. Head home after your anniversary meal to watch the videos from your wedding and honeymoon instead of going out to an expensive movie or play. Cuddle on the couch and reminisce about how you have changed over the years. Postpone your anniversary vacation. Instead, plan an off-season trip, even if it doesn’t coordinate with your wedding date. Celebrate by hosting an anniversary potluck. Entertaining can be expensive, so stay on budget by relying on your family and friends to bring their favorite drinks, main dishes and desserts. Create gifts for one another that mean a lot, but cost next to nothing. Fill a small gift bag or decorative box with slips of paper that include the reasons you love your spouse, inside jokes, favorite movie lines and memorable moments.

Divorce Celebration

Divorce is supposed to be a sad occasion, one that neither party involved really wants to remember, but the truth of the matter is that there are many, many people out there who are nothing short of thrilled to be divorced. If you are one of the many people for whom divorce represents freedom, why not celebrate your wonderful new life by throwing a “divorce-anniversary” party?

Decide on a date to mark the occasion. It can be the actual date that your divorce became final, but if you prefer to mark the day you first separated or the day you last saw your ex, then go ahead and party on that day instead. The wonderful thing about a divorce party is that it’s all about you–no need for consensus, as who cares what your ex thinks?

Invite friends and family members to mark the occasion with you. If you like, you can send out invitations.

You’re Invited Invitations These elegant tea length invitations are perfect for any occasion-holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and retirements.

Blue Frame Invitations A border of Royal Blue frames your words of invitation. These invitations are perfect for Retirements, Anniversaries, Wedding Announcements, Birthdays, or any other special occasion.

Anniversary Jubilee Invitations Celebrate that special wedding anniversary with these elegant tea-length invitations. The year can be changed to accommodate any year.

Decorate for your divorce anniversary party with lots of pictures of you enjoying your wonderful new life. You can also include memorabilia to mark any new hobbies or interests you’ve taken up since your release from couple hood, or any old passions you’ve returned to.

Serve lots of unhealthy fried foods and chocolate desserts. Whatever speaks of self-indulgence to you is what you should have at your party. Celebrate your freedom to eat what you like, without having to impress, placate or accommodate anyone else.

Feel free to invite your married friends. Many of them have already been divorced, and 50% of the rest of them will be divorced later.

If you do not want a large party, you can just go out to dinner or take back your power to do what you want, when you want to without having to have another person agree to do it with you.
